If there is any single product or fad that has been requested more than any other lately, it’s garcinia cambigia. We have heard little else lately and have been asked to review this by more than 90% of the people who contact us for requests. So, let’s get to it.
The weight loss industry is constantly coming up with new ways to help us lose weight. Whether they peddle caffeine pills, pills that make you hyper or just plans which require you to drink shakes all day, it’s hard to tell whether products are legit or a scam.
Garcinia cambigia is one of those products. For a while, it was the hottest thing on the market. “Professionals” would laud the herb’s ability to melt away the pounds, allowing you to lose weight without even exercising.
But what do Garcinia cambogia reviews say? Is Garcinia cambogia a scam? Here’s what we found out about the supplement.
What is Garcinia Cambogia?
Back in the late 1990s, I had a career in weight loss sales. Products containing ephedra were under fire from the FDA, and they were ultimately banned. As a result of the controversy surrounding ephedra and similar supplements, manufacturers needed an alternative, and fast.
Enter Garcinia cambogia. This popular weight loss supplement is said to be a fat blocker. In other words, it keeps your body from absolrbing fat, and also is said to help you feel less hungry. What could be better than an appetite-curbing fat reducer, right?
You can buy Garcinia cambogia on its own, or you can choose supplements with the ingredient mixed in. The weight loss center I worked for sold Garcinia cambogia as an additive to its “daytime” formula. We were to tell customers that it helped to boost energy, metabolism and, as a result, weight loss.
But does Garcinia cambogia work? What do the Garcinia cambogia reviews say? What did I see in my weight loss clients – did the supplemetnt help?
Does Garcinia Cambogia Work?
I’ll wait just a minute before I tell you about my personal experience selling the product. Let’s first look at what the studies say.
First of all, it’s important to note that there are generally two reasons why the FDA will ever stick its nose into a supplement’s business. First of all, if there’s money to be made, the FDA will certainly commence studies. Secondly, if it’s thought that a supplement is causing harm, the government will evaluate the claims.
Garcinia cambogia falls into neither category. It’s a relatively harmless product, with very few side effects. And it’s for that reason that very few studies on the supplement have been conducted.
What we do know is that Garcinia cambogia isn’t a very effective supplement. The studies which have been done show that weight loss customers only show, on average, a two pound increase in weight loss as compared to those who don’t take it.
Garcinia cambogia reviews would tend to agree. Those who used the product did say that they felt a decrease in their appetite. But very few reported an increase in weight loss as compared to when they weren’t taking the supplement.
The most positive Garcinia cambogia reviews reported that they felt an increase in energy. Interestingly, many of these people reported that they felt “less bloated and more energetic.” We can’t help but wonder if those are directly related. As the appetite decreases, those people may have been less likely to overeat.
A decrease in appetite wasn’t a common thread, though. There were some Garcinia cambogia reviews which said they noticed absolutely no difference at all. The positive, though, is that the supplement is inexpensive. It costs about $20 for a month supply.
Is Garcinia Cambogia a Scam?
It’s hard to say if Garcinia cambogia is a scam. There are so many weight loss products on the market that haven’t been studied. It’s hard to say what works and what won’t.
I’ll share with you my personal experience though. Supplements like Garcinia cambogia are precisely the reason I exited the weight loss industry.
Weight loss is a multi-billion dollar industry. Do you think the industry would be as profitable if companies simply focused on the tried and true, like diet and exercise? Probably not.
I’ve sold shakes, chocolate bars, expensive supplements and “personalized” diet plans. And all the while, I felt as if I was taking advantage of my clients. These men and women would come to me with an honest desire to lose weight. The all had their reasons. Some felt that their sex life with their spouse suffered. Others had health conditions. Still others were losing weight for their child’s wedding.
I sold them supplements dutifully, and made a healthy bit of commission doing so. Garcinia cambogia was one of those supplements. Did I see it make a difference in these peoples’ lives and in their weight loss? No. Not a bit.
Garcinia cambogia reviews never explicitly state that the supplement is a scam. But I can tell you from the perspective of someone who made a profit from it that Garcinia cambogia reviews may not be complete.
Is Garcinia cambogia a scam? No, not really. It’s inexpensive enough that you can pop on over to Walmart or sign into Amazon and try it for yourself. It may or may not help you with your weight loss, but there’s no harm done.
But is Garcinia cambogia a miracle drug as the manufacturers and the weight loss industry would suggest? Absolutely not. I didn’t see a real difference in my clients’ weight loss, and Garcinia cambogia reviews say the same.
Should You Try Garcinia Cambogia?
Whether you try Garcinia cambogia is up to you. Who knows? It may be just the little kick you need to finally achieve your weight loss goals. But don’t rely on the supplement to be a cure for all your weight loss woes. It won’t create miracles, and you’ll still have to eat a healthy diet and get a bit of exercise.

Even green tea was said to have good results for weight loss. Garcinia cambogia reviews were largely neutral, and it’s our opinion that you can find something more effective.
